Should my cleaners be using bleach in client homes?

Answered by Ask a Shop Owner ·

Half my cleaners want bleach, half want green products. What is the professional standard?

Green by default, bleach only where required (mold, biohazard, specific stains). Bleach damages surfaces, ruins fabrics on contact, and offends the growing percentage of clients who want green cleaning. It is a business risk masquerading as a cleaning tool.

Standardize your kit. Every crew uses the same three or four products, all commercial-grade, all non-toxic. Post the SDS sheets in each kit. It looks professional and cuts training time.

Advertise green cleaning even if you never say the word 'organic'. It is a real differentiator with residential clients and it lets you charge 10% more.
