When do I quit my day job for my side business?
Answered by Ask a Shop Owner ·
Side biz clears $4k/mo profit. Day job is $75k. Wife is nervous.

Two rules before you jump. One: side business profit covers your household nut for 3 straight months, not one lucky month. Two: you have 6 months of household expenses in cash, separate from business cash.
If both are true, you can go. If only one, keep the job and get intentional about the other. Owners who quit too early spend year one making bad decisions from cash pressure, and it kills the business.
The wife is nervous part matters. Bring her the numbers. Not the vision. She is not worried about the vision, she is worried about the mortgage.
