How do I fire a bad customer without a nasty review?
Answered by Ask a Shop Owner ·
One customer eats up 30% of my time, complains about every order, always wants a discount. I want out but I am scared of the review.

Send a short, warm, boring email. 'We have enjoyed working with you and have decided our shop is no longer the best fit for what you need. We will complete any outstanding orders through [date] and want to recommend [competitor] going forward.' That is it. No blame, no list of grievances.
If they leave a bad review anyway, respond once, publicly, calmly: 'We appreciated the years of business and wish them well. We recommended a shop better suited to their needs.' That reply is for the next 100 readers, not for the customer.
You will be shocked how often they just leave quietly. Nasty customers know they are nasty.
