How do I write a job ad that actually gets applicants?

Answered by Ask a Shop Owner ·

Nobody is applying. My ad is standard, duties, requirements, pay range. Where am I losing them?

Lead with pay and schedule. Not competitive pay, the actual number and the actual hours. Ads that hide pay get 70 percent fewer qualified applicants.

Second line: what is different about working there. We are closed Sundays. You get your own truck. Owner works the trucks too. Specific, not generic.

Cut the requirements list in half. Every requirement filters out someone who could do the job. Must have 5 years experience costs you the 3-year hungry tech who would have been your best hire. Replace requirements with nice to have.
