Learning from the deals you lost
Lost deals are the most underused data source in the shop. Almost nobody asks why.
Call the customer who didn't pick you
A two-minute call ('I wanted to learn from this, mind sharing what made the difference?') yields more honest feedback than any survey. Most customers respect the question.
Look for patterns, not single losses
One lost deal is noise. Five lost deals to the same competitor for the same reason is a signal. Track loss reasons for 60 days and the pattern will be obvious.
Fix the closest leak first
If 'too slow to respond' shows up three times in a row, that's your problem, not 'price.' Owners chase price when the real loss is speed, presentation, or trust.
Take your version of this question further
This is one operator-tested angle on the question. Your shop, your size, your trade, and your team change the answer. Ask your specific version inside Ask a Shop Owner to get a response grounded in how owners like you actually handled it.
