Should I hire a salesperson?

By Ask a Shop OwnerUpdated Hiring

Short answer

Only after you have a written sales process that you have run yourself. Otherwise you're hiring someone to fix what you don't understand.

The prerequisite

You can't outsource what you can't define. If you can't write down how you close, how you follow up, and what a good lead looks like, a salesperson will invent their own process and you won't be able to manage it.

Pay structure

Base plus commission, not pure commission. Pure commission attracts hunters who burn customers. A base says 'I trust you'. The commission keeps them honest about results.
